Child and Adolescent Therapy
Our clinicians tailor evidence-based practices to meet the needs, interests, and preferences of each child. For most children and adolescents, therapy primarily involves the use of behavioral and cognitive-behavioral techniques, with a focus on enhancing children’s ability to understand and communicate their own thoughts and feelings. Additionally, we work with each family to balance individual work with the child client with involving parents in treatment. We believe that parents are therapists’ greatest allies in their children’s therapy progress.
We also endeavor to make therapy a place where older children and adolescents have the privacy and autonomy they need to build safe, comfortable relationships with their therapy providers. We provide affirming and culturally attuned care to children and adolescents with a range of identities and experiences.

Anxiety is among the most common disorders of childhood. Evidence-based approaches to treating childhood anxiety are typically rooted in cognitive-behavioral therapy and involve identifying and understanding emotions, thinking fairly about risks, and systematically facing fears.
-
Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) is a frontline treatment for children with OCD, which teaches them to face fears without engaging in rituals. ERP for children also coaches parents in how to support children in facing their fears without the reassurance of anxiety-maintaining rituals.

Our clinicians provide high-quality, evidence-based therapy for children and adolescents, which may involve both individual and family treatment. We also collaborate with clients’ medical doctors and dietitians to ensure comprehensive coordination of care.
-
Mood disorders, such as depression, can leave children and adolescents so stuck in painful emotional states that they disengage with the important social, academic, and family tasks of development. We help young people return to a full and rewarding life, with evidence based approaches that help them re-engage in activities, navigate relationships more effectively, and learn new coping skills.

Therapy for children who have endured major stress focuses on restoring a sense of safety. We offer trauma-focused CBT (TF-CBT) for children who have post-traumatic stress. We additionally apply a trauma informed lens to consider the broad ways difficult experiences can shape behavioral and emotional difficulties in young people, to help teach both children and their parents new skills for recovery from major stress.
-
Therapy for children with major behavioral difficulties involves collaboration with parents, teaching them skills to respond to disruptive behaviors when they occur, to encourage appropriate behavior, and to help build warm, rewarding relationships between parents and children, even under challenging circumstances. We provide interventions such as Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) to treat children with behavioral difficulties.

We provide attuned care for neurodivergent children and adolescents, including kids on the autism spectrum or with ADHD. Treatment typically involves working from results of comprehensive assessment, collaborating across providers (e.g., psychology, psychiatry, speech or occupational therapies, etc.) and among family members, and creating tailored, affirming treatment plans to address behavioral, social, academic or mood-related goals.
