Meha Semwal Smith, MD, MPH, is a board-certified adult psychiatrist/board-eligible child and adolescent psychiatrist, offering appointments in Colorado (in person and virtual), and California (virtual only). She is currently accepting patients for weekly therapy sessions, with or without medication management. A former competitive tennis player, pianist, and published poet, who has lived abroad, Dr. Smith enjoys varied athletic, artistic, and joy-focused pursuits; she employs this same strength-based, positive psychiatry approach, with patients. Dr. Smith is passionate about helping patients from all walks of life and would be a most effective teammate for those seeking treatment of anxiety/OCD, trauma- and stressor-related disorders/PTSD, and depressive disorders including treatment-resistant depression. Dr. Smith also has extensive training in difficulties arising from neurodevelopment (autism spectrum, ADHD), substance use/disorders, psychosis/thought disorders, personality disorders, and bipolar spectrum illness. Please note that for certain diagnoses/medication regimens, and/or for those who may not have optimal treatment results virtually, she may recommend more in-person appointments to ensure the highest quality care. Dr. Smith personalizes her medication management and therapy approach to each individual patient and is well-versed in Psychodynamic Psychotherapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (for Trauma and Anxiety/OCD), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Parent Management Training, Parent-Child Interaction Therapy, and family and couple’s work. She is currently enrolled in a three-year International Experiential Dynamic Therapy Association (IEDTA) certification program for Intensive Short-Term Dynamic Psychotherapy (ISTDP).

Dr. Smith is especially helpful therapeutically for those motivated to address internal emotional problems and related relationship issues; family dynamic challenges; people-pleasing and perfectionism; migraines/pain connected to unprocessed emotions; blocks in accessing creativity, bravery, and joy; and those who are gifted or high achievers but find themselves wishing they could more deeply enjoy their fullest potential. Dr. Smith offers a genuine, focused partnership and a warm, encouraging connection, so that the most rapid and lasting healing can occur.
