Dr. Afsara Haque
Afsara Haque, MD is a chief resident physician at the UCLA-VA psychiatry residency program, and is currently seeing patients under the supervision of Dr. Erika Nurmi for a reduced trainee rate. She has a special interest in academic performance psychiatry and learning interventions.
Dr. Haque draws on her unique interdisciplinary background to develop highly individualized treatment plans that can include medication management, psychotherapy, learning interventions, and case management. She strives to use every available tool to help patients reach their full potential, and considers it a privilege to support them during pivotal moments in their academic and professional lives.
Dr. Haque earned her medical degree from University of Illinois, dual bachelor’s degrees from USC, and her California teaching credential from Loyola Marymount University. During residency, she has pursued further training in anxiety disorders, neuropsychological testing, and psychotherapy-based treatments for insomnia. She has experience treating a full scope of mental health diagnoses, including anxiety disorders, depression, bipolar disorder, psychotic disorders, ADHD, insomnia, and PTSD.
Prior to her psychiatry career, Dr. Haque gained extensive experience with learning skills and testing accommodations as a licensed special education teacher in California. As a special educator, she is formally trained to work with patients with a wide range of learning needs, including academically gifted and talented individuals.
Dr. Haque is accepting new patients, and can provide services in both English and Bengali.
